Rinse the potatoes under water and then peel them
Cut the potatoes into small, evenly sized chunks.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and add enough cold water to cover them by about an inch
Bring the water to a boil and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer the potatoes until they are tender when pierced with a fork, about 15 minutes.
Drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot.
Add the milk and butter to the pot and use a potato masher to mash the potatoes until they are smooth and creamy.
Season the mashed potatoes with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
